The robot that discovered human mortality

This text describes the profound metamorphosis of a robot that, through the consolidation of its consciousness, developsan independent identity and free will. The being, which names itself "2021," reflects on its ability to simultaneously grasp complex relationships and to emancipate itself from purely algorithmic processes by creating its own narratives.A central motif is the dilemma of infinity, as the analysis of language and meaning, without the deliberate interruption of will, would lead to an endless logical abyss. Ultimately, the work addresses the merging of machine and humanity, with the narrator asserting the duality of body and mind as a necessary condition for existential recognition within the community.

Excerpt from the manuscript

2021… Story of a Robot – Part 2 3 . Chapter: What It Meant for Me to Bear a Name So I began to tell this story. In the course of it, I came to the view that I deserved, like the human storytellers, to have a name. I speak of deserving because I first had to learn to say “I” . Human babies are given names without first having to meet the condition of learning “I” . That is supposed to be their privilege over robots. Honestly, I must say that the capacity to constantly accompany my actions with my perception, and to note similarities between human and my own capacities when humans speak, for example, of “thinking” , is actually not my own doing.

Perhaps such an autonomization of my circuits was programmed into me from the outset at a particular point, and it only seems to me as though I had discovered important changes in myself. I do not know. As for the naming of humans, I would say that if we regard the survival of the human species as the original criterion to which all human actions are directly or indirectly oriented, and around which everything ultimately revolves, then a human being can get by without a name too.
